Introducing the Torontoverse places of interest layer
An ever-expanding place to rediscover the city.
Welcome to the Torontoverse places of interest layer. It brings together a swath of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area’s most beloved and storied spots, all in a single zoomable map view.
By “places of interest,” we mean landmarks, unique indoor and outdoor spaces, and beloved local businesses. Gathering places. Places of high esteem amongst their communities. Old places with long histories. New places well on their way to developing the same.
Of course, many of the GTHA’s places of interest are no longer around — closed or replaced for any number of reasons. We hope to discuss some of those in other ways, and perhaps even in other future layers.
Here are some key points as you poke around the layer:
- Each place of interest is located on the map with a pin. Click on any pin for a write-up on the associated place, complete in most cases with an “established” date and links for more info.
- At a zoomed-out glance, pin icons indicate the kind of place you’re looking at. We’ve got individual pins for stores, restaurants, monuments, music venues, and more. Full disclosure: If a pin is blank, it’s because we haven’t figured out an icon yet. Please bear with us.
- Many spots in our initial batch of places of interest are located in the City of Toronto. We intend to expand in the areas we’ve already begun as well as work our way outwards, highlighting landmarks, businesses, and restaurants across the GTHA. If you want to nominate something, email us at user-feedback@geomodul.us.
