Photo of the Day: Doug and Olivia make a deal
In a move that surprised many, Mayor Olivia Chow and Premier Doug Ford announced a deal that will see responsibility for and maintenance of both the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway taken over by the province.
The city is currently responsible for both highways. An ongoing rebuild of the crumbling Gardiner Expressway through downtown is one of the city's largest capital projects.

The province will also give Toronto funds to help cover the operation of the Finch and Eglinton LRTs for the next three years.
In exchange, the city has accepted that the province will go ahead with it's Ontario Place development including a relocation of the Ontario Science Centre and the construction of a large, private spa facility.
Financially, it's big windfall for the city but at the cost of accepting defeat on two issues important to many of Chow's progressive voters: tearing down the Gardiner Expressway and stopping the Ontario Place development.
